Woman unable to afford funeral, buries husband in backyard
APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (UPI) — An Apple Valley, Calif., woman, 59, apparently buried her husband in her backyard after he died, claiming she could not afford a funeral, authorities said.
The body of the man, 63 when he died several weeks ago, was found in a shallow grave behind the couple’s home, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.
“The distraught female said the man died at home and she did not have the resources to give him a proper burial,” the San Bernardino County, Calif., Sheriff’s Department said in a statement, adding there was no sign of trauma to the body.
The woman and her deceased husband were not identified.
